National Education
EDM number 258 in 2002-03, proposed by Harold Best on 02/12/2002.
That this House recognises that the education of the nation is essential to its general well-being as is the NHS, and like the NHS that education should be free and equally available at the time of need; notes that this was reflected in the Prime Minister's speech when he referred to the importance of education, education, education; and further believes the education of our people to be a right not a privilege and thus the fairest and most equitable method of financing the education system from preschool to higher and further education is through means tested income tax thereby acknowledging that society as a whole benefits from education.
