Stockholm Declaration On War And The Environment In Vietnam, Laos And Cambodia

EDM number 228 in 2002-03, proposed by Harry Cohen on 27/11/2002.

That this House notes with concern the long-term health and environmental consequences of wars in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia; endorses the Stockholm Declaration, including its recommendations for action, adopted on 28th July by the Environmental Conference on Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam; calls on the Government and companies that were directly and indirectly involved in production and use of weapons in these countries to accept responsibility for the long-term consequences of their use, and in particular the use by the armed forces of the United States of herbicides such as Agent Orange which were contaminated with dioxins; urges Her Majesty's Government to request the Secretary-General of the United Nations to circulate copies of the Stockholm document as an official document of the United Nations; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to support efforts to reduce the long-term health and environmental consequences of wars in these countries.
