Presence Of Discredited Iraqi Union Representatives In The UK
EDM number 1942 in 2002-03, proposed by Harry Barnes on 18/11/2003.
That this House supports the growth of an independent trade union movement in Iraq to replace the discredited unions run by Saddam Hussein's regime; notes that two leading figures of Saddam's bogus General Federation of Trade Unions, Jamil Al Joubory, calling himself the President of the GFTU and Karim Hamza as his international secretary, will visit the United Kingdom on 20th November for possible meetings with British trade unions; believes that they falsely claim to represent Iraqi working people; and welcomes the decision of the independent and newly formed Iraqi Federation of Trade Unions and the Workers' Democratic Trade Union Movement to expose these two individuals and list the crimes which their now defunct organisation committed, as an extension of Saddam's repressive apparatus, against workers in Iraq.
This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
