Independence Of Consultation On Admissions To Higher Education
EDM number 1912 in 2002-03, proposed by James Clappison on 12/11/2003.
That this House notes the publication by Mr Steven Schwartz of a pamphlet entitled Reclaiming our Universities which advocates Labour Party policy on higher education in an openly partisan way; further notes that Mr Schwartz is presently conducting what is described as an independent review into admissions to higher education on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education and Skills; and believes that, whilst Mr Schwartz is otherwise free to express whatever views he wishes, he cannot advocate the policies of one political party in such a way and still claim to be independent for the purposes of carrying out a review into key issues relating to higher education.
