Indonesia - Justice For Victims Of Human Rights Abuses In East Timor

EDM number 1900 in 2002-03, proposed by Ann Clwyd on 11/11/2003.

That this House notes with concern that the trials in Indonesia's ad hoc human rights court for East Timor have been unsatisfactory for the victims of gross violations of human rights in East Timor and that Indonesia has refused to transfer military officers indicted with serious crimes in East Timor to the East Timorese authorities; is therefore of the view that the Indonesian Government has not honoured its commitment to the international community to secure accountability for serious crimes committed in East Timor; and urges Her Majesty's Government to press the United Nations to consider other options for justice, including the establishment of an international criminal tribunal for East Timor.
