Peace And Progress In Sudan

EDM number 1842 in 2002-03, proposed by Hilton Dawson on 29/10/2003.

That this House welcomes the breakthrough in the current IGAD-sponsored peace process in Sudan; acknowledges that the signing of the pivotal security arrangements framework agreement by the Government of Sudan and Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army represents a vitally important step towards a full agreement; congratulates the UK Government on its commitment to supporting peace in Sudan; encourages the Government to intensify its efforts on the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement and to take the lead in advocating the relief of Sudan's extensive debt and fully assisting post-conflict reconstruction and development in Sudan through increasing aid allocation; and urges the UK and the international community to seize this historic opportunity to reverse Sudan's human tragedy by supporting a sustainable peace and enabling the people of Sudan to contribute to a democratic future for their country.

This motion has been signed by a total of 50 MPs.
