Safety At Holiday Resorts
EDM number 1841 in 2002-03, proposed by Jeffrey Donaldson on 29/10/2003.
That this House notes with concern the ever-increasing number of accidents that occur each year in other EU countries, which result in the death of, or serious injury to, British holidaymakers; notes that such accidents often result from poor safety standards and lack of proper monitoring procedures on the part of the local authorities in these countries; congratulates the Holiday Travel Watch organisation on their excellent campaign to alert British holidaymakers to the risks associated with holidaying abroad; and calls on the Government to press for the introduction of appropriate regulations across the European Union to improve safety standards in holiday resorts including fire safety, food hygiene, safety as swimming pools, on beaches and on hotel and apartment balconies.
