"canadian Asbestos:a Global Concern" Conference
EDM number 1821 in 2002-03, proposed by Michael Clapham on 27/10/2003.
That this House congratulates the organisers of the landmark conference, Canadian Asbestos a Global Concern, held in Ottawa from 12th to 14th September and which succeeded, against the considerable pressure of the asbestos industry to prevent it, due to the determination of Canadian MP Joe Comartin, to become the first national gathering of asbestos victims, public health campaigners, environmentalists and medical professionals in that country to discuss the horrendous health implications of one hundred years of Canadian asbestos production and has led to the formation of a new group, Ban Asbestos Canada, to add its voice to the national debate on asbestos.
This motion has been signed by a total of 67 MPs.
