Magazines For Teenagers
EDM number 1745 in 2002-03, proposed by Jimmy Wray on 15/10/2003.
That this House condemns the many magazines designed for young teenagers for giving too much information and so-called advice on sex; believes that these magazines think that they are a law unto themselves and that they can print explicit materials and descriptions in the name of informing youngsters; recognises that there is a difference between giving advice and raising issues in a responsible way and telling and even encouraging impressionable young teenagers and even children how to carry out sexual acts when they are so young; congratulates Sir Bob Geldoff and family groups for objecting to some of the material these magazines print; and hopes that the magazines will refrain from printing such material and running children's childhood, and that they will act more responsibly.
