Shirin Ebadi, First Muslim Woman Nobel Laureate
EDM number 1728 in 2002-03, proposed by Ann Cryer on 14/10/2003.
That this House congratulates Shirin Ebadi, the Iranian woman human rights lawyer, on being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her brave actions in seeking to protect women, children, human rights lawyers and political activists, work which has justifiably gained her the reputation as a fearless jurist and putting her at risk from violent excesses of Iranian secret police agents; and trusts that this award will serve to protect her from such violence, enabling her to continue with her highly regarded and much appreciated work.
This motion has been signed by a total of 67 MPs.
