Burma And Aung San Suu Kyi

EDM number 1659 in 2002-03, proposed by Caroline Spelman on 09/09/2003.

That this House notes with considerable concern reports by the US State Department that Aung San Suu Kyi has been on hunger strike for the last three weeks, following her unjustified detention on 30th May; remains sceptical about Burmese Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt's promise to produce a road map to democracy, implementing constitutional reforms; calls upon the Burmese Government to show its commitment to democracy by taking measures such as halting human rights abuses; and urges the Government to facilitate the immediate release of Aung San Suu Kyi and her supporters.

This motion has been signed by a total of 68 MPs.
