Scottish Regiments

That this House recognises the contribution to United Kingdom and international defence, and other military operations, given by Scotland's infantry regiments over many years; notes with concern the failure of the Secretary of State for Defence to rule out the disbandment or amalgamation of any of Scotland's regiments at Defence Questions on 8th September; and calls on the Government to reject any proposal to disband or further amalgamate Scotland's regiments, thereby allowing them to continue their valuable role in the modern army at a time of increased global insecurity, additional need for peacekeeping troops and the overstretch of the armed forces.
