Mains Connection Of Water Sprinkler Systems

That this House is convinced of the effectiveness of water sprinkler systems in preventing damage, expense, injury and loss of life through fire; notes the reluctance of many water suppliers to support the installation of such systems because of the risk of waste of water or its theft through the bypassing of water meters and their mistaken perception of liability if they fail to maintain water pressures and flows; believes that these objections can be overcome in cooperation with the industry; and asks Her Majesty's Government to encourage and, if necessary, to require water authorities to allow sprinkler systems to be directly connected to the mains wherever they are installed.
