Death Of Tonderai Machiridza And Human Rights Abuses In Zimbabwe

EDM number 1554 in 2002-03, proposed by Lynne Jones on 08/07/2003.

That this House is deeply concerned at the death of Tonderai Machiridza, a member of the Movement for Democratic Change in Zimbabwe, and the injuries sustained by David Chipunza, John Mazhambe and Lisbon Mutandwa in police custody and over 250 Movement for Democratic Change activists during the mass stay-away in March, that appear to have been inflicted by the police and state agents; calls on Southern African leaders to put pressure on the government of Zimbabwe for an immediate investigation into the assault and for those responsible to be brought to justice; and urges them to publicly condemn human rights violations in Zimbabwe.

This motion has been signed by a total of 61 MPs.
