Sexual Health Week 2003
EDM number 1533 in 2002-03, proposed by Liam Fox on 07/07/2003.
That this House notes the importance of Sexual Health Week 4th to 10th August, and praises the Family Planning Association for raising awareness of this important issue and initiating this noteworthy campaign; congratulates the Family Planning Association for continuing to raise awareness of the importance of sexual health; wholeheartedly supports the Family Planning Association's 2003 campaign, which focuses on educating young men about the risk of sexually transmitted infections; is deeply concerned at the worrying lack of awareness among many young men of the risks of catching and passing on sexually transmitted infections highlighted recently by research carried out by the Family Planning Association; recognises that such research corroborates the House of Commons Health Select Committee's recent report on sexual health; is further concerned that the UK is suffering a public health crisis as a result, in part, of this lack of knowledge among young people of the risks posed by sexual transmitted infections, and the importance of taking appropriate precautions; regrets the Government's abject failure to heed the Conservative Party's repeated demands for it to recognise the seriousness of the sexual health crisis and to take the urgent action needed to tackle that crisis; and wishes Sexual Health Week the very best of success.
