That this House is concerned at the calling in of receivers Ernst and Young by the American-owned Imperial Home Decor Group at their Crown Wallcoverings Plant in Darwen, Lancashire, and Storeys in Morecambe, Lancashire; deplores the laying off of workers in both Darwen and Morecambe without any consultation whatsoever with the trade unions or the workforce; further deplores the failure to pay wages owed and holiday pay; notes that many of these workers have long records of service at Crown and Storeys and that serious distress and hardship has already been caused to them and their families; and calls upon the Minister for Work to make it plain to companies like Imperial Home Decor and Ernst and Young that it is wholly unacceptable for a loyal workforce to be treated in such a cavalier manner.
