Friction Dynamex Strike
EDM number 1506 in 2002-03, proposed by Hywel Williams on 01/07/2003.
That this House congratulates the organisers of the very successful commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the North Wales Quarrymen's three year long Great Penrhyn Slate Quarry Strike, the longest industrial strike in British industrial history; notes that the current Friction Dynamex strike at Caernarfon is still unresolved after over two years and three months; regrets that there is no hope at all that this strike will be resolved until at least November 2003; fears that it is in danger of exceeding the Penrhyn Strike's unenviable record; believes that under international laws supported by the United Kingdom Government, workers have a right not to suffer detriment as a result of taking legal industrial action, that this is not a qualified right and the United Kingdom Government should not make it one; and calls on the Government to remove the eight week limit on protection for striking workers.
