Civil Service Relocation

EDM number 1484 in 2002-03, proposed by Matthew Taylor on 26/06/2003.

That this House notes that Sir Michael Lyons' Review into civil service relocation was launched in the Budget Statement on 9th April, that the review will assess the possibility of relocating a large number of public sector and central Government jobs from the South East and London to other parts of Great Britain and will report his findings by the end of 2003; recognises that Cornwall is a great place to live and work, and that with the recent advances in e-technology and more widespread use of broadband, Government departments no longer need to be located in London and the South East to do their job; and urges Sir Michael to seriously consider relocating Civil Service jobs to Cornwall.
