St Austell Afc
EDM number 1481 in 2002-03, proposed by Matthew Taylor on 26/06/2003.
That this House notes that St Austell AFC have had 52 years of unbroken membership of the Carlsberg South Western League, that the 'Lilywhites' have one of the finest records in Cornish football, that Sir Stanley Matthews was a guest player for the club, and that St Austell have produced some of the finest players to represent Cornwall at county level; reminds the FA that St Austell's Poltair Park Ground was once dubbed 'Little Wembley' because it was recognised as the best pitch in Cornwall; and that St Austell's current committee worked particularly hard to put together a competitive team for the 2002-03 season; notes that Bodmin was not evicted from the Carlsberg South Western League, despite finishing 17 points behind St Austell; therefore calls on the Carlsberg South Western League to reconsider its decision to expel St Austell from the league; and supports any appeal by St Austell AFC to the Football Association.
