Human Rights At Camp Delta
EDM number 1478 in 2002-03, proposed by Paul Marsden on 26/06/2003.
That this House condemns the ongoing detention of 680 men including nine Britons at Camp Delta, Guantanamo Bay; notes that none is allowed access to legal representation and none has been brought to trial or been found guilty of any offence; is appalled at the admittance by US officials that 'stress and duress' torture techniques are routinely applied including being kept kneeling or standing for hours in black hoods, being deprived of basic painkillers used to treat wounds, being deprived of sleep, being bombarded for over 24 hours with lights and being bound into painful positions; and demands Her Majesty's Government increases its opposition to the inhumane conditions of the prisoners with a view to either freeing them or their being brought to trial quickly.
