White Paper On Genetics And Cystic Fibrosis

EDM number 1467 in 2002-03, proposed by Tom Watson on 24/06/2003.

That this House warmly welcomes the publication of the White Paper on Genetics and the announcement by the Secretary of State for Health of ú2.5 million towards gene therapy research for cystic fibrosis; believes that this much-needed boost to this ground breaking work will improve the chances of finding a cure for the many thousands of sufferers of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited disease which kills three young people every week; and calls on the Government to work with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and others to address the issues of concern, including the funding of NHS posts working in this field and adult prescription charges, and agree a path which will lead to the earliest possible discovery of a cure which will relieve not only the sufferers of the disease but also the many thousands of families across the country whose lives are blighted by it.

This motion has been signed by a total of 59 MPs.
