Guardsmen Fisher And Wright
EDM number 1462 in 2002-03, proposed by Kevin McNamara on 24/06/2003.
That this House applauds the determination of Mrs Jean McBride to ensure that those found guilty of the murder of her son are prevented from pursuing a career in HM Armed Services; welcomes the declaration of the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal at the conclusion of a judicial review on the application of Mrs McBride 'That taken together, the reasons expressed by the Army Board for the retention in Army service of Guardsmen Fisher and Wright in determination of 21st November 2001 do not amount to exceptional reasons'; expresses support for the worldwide campaign of Amnesty International and others against armies that protect human rights abusers and permit convicted killers to remain in service; and urges the Government to accept the ruling of the court and respond appropriately.
