Post Office Services In Shrewsbury

EDM number 1457 in 2002-03, proposed by Paul Marsden on 23/06/2003.

That this House condemns the intended closure of 3,000 urban post office branches nationwide including the closure of two post offices in Shrewsbury at Meole Brace and Longden Green; notes the failure of the Post Office to undertake checks on disabled access for other post offices nearby; is concerned at the effects of closure on vulnerable groups in society such as pensioners; believes also that the changes in the post office services fail to understand the importance that local branches play in the fabric of community life; recognises the reluctance of many pensioners to end the use of pension books; and urges the Government to allow the retention of pension books used by 8,497 pensioners in Shrewsbury and Atcham who make up 49.47 per cent. of all pensioners in the constituency.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
