State Benefits
EDM number 1444 in 2002-03, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 19/06/2003.
That this House recognises the steps taken by the Government to reduce dependency on state benefits by increasing access for all to work and introducing of the national minimum wage to end poverty pay; but recognises too the continuing need of some to access state benefits; is concerned at the level of uptake of some state benefits, and the possibility that some people entitled to these benefits do not apply because of the complexity of the applications process; and calls upon the Government to review the presentation of state benefits to ensure that information on the availability of benefits is presented in a clear and simplified manner.
