Recognition Of British Sign Language
EDM number 1389 in 2002-03, proposed by Mike Weir on 11/06/2003.
That this House welcomes the recent announcement from the Department of Work and Pensions that British Sign Language is a language in its own right; notes, however, that there is no Scottish representative on the advisory group to discuss how the ú1 million funding will be spent for the training of BSL/English interpreters and other BSL initiatives; and believes that all areas of the United Kingdom should benefit from this development and that organisations such as the Scottish Council on Deafness should be included in the consultation process.
