Mental Health Services In London
EDM number 1385 in 2002-03, proposed by Karen Buck on 11/06/2003.
That this House believes that poor mental health is often one of the factors associated with deprivation and that the high concentration of factors associated with poor mental health in London means that the public services face very significant challenges in providing effective, user-centred services; notes that London has the highest rates of formal admission to both NHS and private hospitals under the Mental Health Act 1983 compared with other English regions; notes also that mental ill-health is estimated to cost in the region of ú5 billion per year; and calls upon the Government to consult on how best to use indicators of mental ill-health to help determine the allocation of resources, such as those distributed through the Index of Multiple Deprivation.
