Mobile Phone Industry Campaign To Help Reduce Street Crime
EDM number 1379 in 2002-03, proposed by Tom Watson on 10/06/2003.
That this House welcomes the launch of the mobile phone industry's Immobilise Phone Crime campaign in the West Midlands on 6th June following its success in raising public awareness of the issues surrounding mobile phone theft in London after its launch in March this year; applauds the industry's work in partnership with the Home Office and Police to raise ú1.5 million in funding for this campaign, raising awareness that a lost or stolen handset can now be blocked across all five UK mobile networks, rendering it useless to criminals and significantly reducing the incentive behind such street crime; and encourages mobile phone users whose handset has been lost or stolen to either call their mobile phone network direct or call 08701 123 123 to find out how to have their handset barred.
