The Esmeralda

EDM number 1350 in 2002-03, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 05/06/2003.

That this House expresses regret over the Government's decision to allow the forthcoming visit of the Chilean naval ship, the Esmeralda, to Dartmouth and London, where it will be from 14th July for seven days; notes the ship's role in the 1973 coup in Chile wherein hundreds of Chileans were illegally detained and tortured, including the British priest Father Michael Woodward who was tortured to death on board the vessel; and out of respect for the memory of victims of General Pinochet, calls upon the Government to cancel the visit.

This motion has been signed by a total of 25 MPs.
