Conduct Of Scottish Labour Members And Pr For Local Government In Scotland
EDM number 1331 in 2002-03, proposed by Pete Wishart on 04/06/2003.
That this House notes the campaign of several Scottish honourable Members to reverse and influence the decision of the Scottish Executive to legislate on PR for Local Government in Scotland; believes that the democratisation of the voting system for local Government in Scotland is long overdue and will result in the end of massive Labour majorities on a minority of the vote across vast swathes of West Central Scotland; believes that this is not an issue for Scottish MPs and the Scottish Parliament has every right to legislate on this matter; hopes that the threatening and intimidating language, specifically the threat to review the voting system of the Scottish Parliament, will only stiffen the resolve of the Scottish Executive; and believes that the electoral system of the Scottish Parliament should no longer be entrusted with this House and should be transferred to the Scottish Parliament.
