Clearing Up Cluster Bombs
EDM number 1294 in 2002-03, proposed by Austin Mitchell on 03/06/2003.
That this House is concerned that Her Majesty's Government and the MoD not only ignored the widely expressed demands that cluster bombs should not be used in the Iraq conflict, but even used them in urban areas; believes that these inhuman weapons, which are just as dangerous as anti-personnel mines, negate any humanitarian mission in Iraq; insists that the Government now initiates a major effort to clear up and make safe the bomblets scattered all over Iraq so as to remove the danger to the civilian population, and particularly children, which they now represent; and emphasises that it is the responsibility of the Alliance to make both urban and rural areas of Iraq safe.
