Air Travel And Health (No 2)
EDM number 1293 in 2002-03, proposed by John P Smith on 22/05/2003.
That this House welcomes the announcement by Her Majesty's Government of the creation of an Air Health Unit based at CAA Gatwick funded by a levy on the aviation industry to become a centre of expertise and act as a focal point for aviation health issues, to offer advice to air passengers and crews and be the first port of call for enquiries, to investigate health concerns, to provide technical input into international organisations, and to identify the need for and manage future research; recognises this as a positive response to the report of the House fo Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology into Air Travel and Health and the campaigning work of the Victims of Air related Deep vein Thrombosis, which will establish the first such facility in the world; and acknowledges that this will mark another important step on the road to discovering the full extent, incidence and cause of deep vein thrombosis in air travellers.
