Sustainable Communities Plan

That this House welcomes the publication of the Government's Sustainable Communities Plan on 5th February; notes that the Plan aims to address current housing pressures; and calls on the Government to ensure the Plan is delivered through established planning processes in a way that ensures a coherent national approach to housing provision; focuses on meeting real housing needs, especially the need for affordable housing; promotes urban renewal; ensures opportunities for genuine public participation in decision-making and protects the countryside and the environment by identifying and respecting environmental capacity constraints and through more efficient use of land and other natural resources, particularly water.
