Presspoint For World News
EDM number 1267 in 2002-03, proposed by Jane Griffiths on 20/05/2003.
That this House believes greater knowledge of what is happening elsewhere in the world can only help bring countries together and therefore congratulates Robert Schlachter of Town News in Union Street, known as Smelly Alley, in Reading which, after 15 years of building up a reputation for supplying customers with newspapers from all over the world, is now the first retail outlet in the country to install the presspoint system allowing 116 newspapers from all over the world to be available in Reading printed within seconds of the paper's deadline with the result that people in Reading from Colombia can read what's happening in their home country before people in downtown Bogota can; and calls on the Government to encourage other newsagents to be similarly internationalist in outlook.
This motion has been signed by a total of 9 MPs.
