Role Of The United Nations In Iraq
EDM number 1246 in 2002-03, proposed by Llew Smith on 19/05/2003.
That this House agrees with the comments made by the Secretary of State for Wales to the Sunday Telegraph, published on 6th April that in respect of Iraq 'What is crucial is that the UN is put in charge after the interim transitional arrangements'; notes that in the draft resolution proposed by the United Kingdom, United States and Spain to the United Nations Security Council on 9th May it suggests only a co-ordinating role for the United Nations, and instead proposes to create a new Iraq Authority comprising the United Kingdom and United States as conquering powers following their invasion of Iraq; and asks that the Welsh Secretary clarify his position on the draft resolution in light of his earlier contradictory remarks.
