Potters Bar Rail Crash
EDM number 1226 in 2002-03, proposed by James Clappison on 15/05/2003.
That this House notes that 10th May was the first anniversary of the Potters Bar train crash; supports the call of the bereaved and the injured for a public inquiry into the causes of the crash, backed by the local newspapers, the Times Group and the Barnet press; expresses concern at the difficulties facing those bringing compensation claims, owing to a lack of funding for legal costs; notes the absence of an acceptance of responsibility for the crash on the part of any of those responsible for the operation of the railway at the time in contrast to the early acceptance of responsibilities in similar previous incidents; and calls on all those concerned to reconsider the way in which they are facing up to their responsibilities to the bereaved and injured and the travelling public.
