Pensioner Poverty, Hospital Benefits, And Security In Old Age
EDM number 1179 in 2002-03, proposed by Ashok Kumar on 12/05/2003.
That this House welcomes the immediate abolition of cuts to pensions and other benefits for older people who stay in hospital for less than a year; notes that this reform will be a huge relief to many thousands of older people and their families both in Teesside and across the UK; further welcomes the additional cash for older people, including the extra ú100 to be added to the winter fuel payment for the over 80s, announced in the Chancellor's budget; and fully supports the Government's goal of tackling pensioner poverty and guaranteeing security in old age.
