Internal Security Act In Malaysia
EDM number 1132 in 2002-03, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 06/05/2003.
That this House expresses its continued concern that the reform activists Tian Chua, Saari Sungib, Hishamuddin Rais, Lokman Noor Adam and Doctor Badrulamin Bahrom continue to he held in detention without trial under the Internal Security Act (ISA) despite the recent Federal Court judgement that their detention is illegal and mala-fide and against the backdrop of the decision by the ISA Advisory Board that they should be released, as well as against a recommendation recently made by the Malaysian National Human Rights Commission that the ISA should be abolished; notes the continued detention of Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor, first under the ISA and now under the Official Secrets Act; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to make renewed representations for these six Amnesty International-recognised prisoners of conscience to be released, specifically when the detention orders under the ISA come up for renewal in June.
