Consumer Representation And The British Horseracing Board

EDM number 1022 in 2002-03, proposed by Alan Meale on 07/04/2003.

That this House recognises that more and more organisations now feel it both sensible and necessary to hear their customers' opinions; notes that health service providers, government departments, producers' organisations, professional bodies and local authorities are currently amongst those engaged in the establishment of consumer panels, committees and user groups, or seeking at the very least, a consumer point of view on relevant expert or advisory bodies; further notes that a shining example of this sort of approach by a supporting organisation can be seen operated by the Football Association, which holds amongst its core objectives the encouragement of inclusive working partnerships amongst all interest groups; believes that the British Horseracing Board has much to learn from such endeavours and that its millions of customers should not remain exempt from similar involvement, especially following on from the recommendations of the Budd Report which highlighted the need for a review of gambling legislation in the UK, whilst acknowledging the voices of many currently without representation, but who have contributed mostly financially towards their success.

This motion has been signed by a total of 13 MPs.
