Visit Of The President Of Catalonia To Scotland
EDM number 99 in 2001-02, proposed by Angus Robertson on 10/07/2001.
That this House welcomes the remarks by the President of Catalonia, Jordi Pujol, in Edinburgh on 9th July, in which he backed the case for greater financial powers for the Scottish Parliament, remarking that, 'Obviously it is important for Scotland, and it's important for us, to resolve well the financial problems ... it's absolutely necessary to have not only a theoretical political power but also the very realistic power of having the possibility of financing that. These questions of financing must be deeply discussed and often'; notes that the Scottish Parliament has fewer financial powers than any other in the world; and calls for the Scottish Parliament not Westminister to have control over tax and spending decisions in Scotland.
