Plasticised Cadavers As Art

EDM number 980 in 2001-02, proposed by Gordon Prentice on 11/03/2002.

That this House notes that an exhibition of plasticised cadavers grotesquely masquerading as art, is reportedly scheduled to open at the Atlantis Gallery, Brick Lane, London on 23rd March; considers as bogus the claim of the artist, Professor Gunther von Hagens, that the exhibition is 'democratising anatomy'; is concerned about the possible effect on the mental and physical health of those confronted by ghoulish exhibits; believes the exhibition to be an affront to human dignity; and calls on the Government to outlaw this disturbing practice of displaying corpses.

This motion has been signed by a total of 25 MPs.
