Wales And The Failures Of Consignia Management
EDM number 974 in 2001-02, proposed by Jackie Lawrence on 11/03/2002.
That this House condemns the actions of Consignia management in ignoring the needs of Wales; calls on them to reverse their policy of treating Wales as a second class area of the United Kingdom in their decision to cease weekend sorting of mail in both North and South Wales, to move personnel functions from Cardiff to Sheffield, to move cash handling from Swansea to Bristol, and to ignore Wales completely in locating their Mdec (manual data entry) centres thereby removing job opportunities, promotion opportunities and regional recognition from Wales which risks an inferior service for Wales, and compounds the management errors that have led to Consignia operating at a ú500 million annual profit five years ago to a ú100 million loss-making operation last year; and calls on the Government to recognise that in any other industry such incompetent management would be sacked.
