Norwich Union Home And Dry Campaign
EDM number 963 in 2001-02, proposed by Simon Thomas on 07/03/2002.
That this House notes that Norwich Union has launched a campaign named, Home and Dry, to lobby for added investment in flood defence measures; is concerned that the campaign makes no mention of the main causes of flooding in the United Kingdom during the last decade or so, namely building on flood plains and climate change; believes that Norwich Union would be better placed as a responsible company to use its influence to push forward the need to address climate change issues rather than encouraging local people to lobby for more public money to be spent on defending land which should not be developed on in the first place; and emphasises that the only way to achieve a reduction in the threat of flooding is a complete change in the way we produce energy and transport our goods.
