Affordable Housing

EDM number 959 in 2001-02, proposed by Norman Lamb on 07/03/2002.

That this House notes that in many parts of the country, including both urban and rural areas, there is now an acute shortage of affordable housing; further notes that the planning regime fails to ensure that the policy objective of providing a mix of housing types, including affordable housing, is actually achieved; further notes that the Government is consulting about reform of the planning process and that the new Affordable Housing Unit is due to report on measures to achieve an adequate supply of affordable housing; applauds the Eastern Daily Press for highlighting the issue in Norfolk; and urges the Government to act as speedily as possible to ensure that both the planning and funding framework facilitate the provision of sufficient affordable housing.

This motion has been signed by a total of 28 MPs.
