Human Rights In Tibet
EDM number 942 in 2001-02, proposed by George Stevenson on 06/03/2002.
That this House notes with concern that over one million Tibetans have perished as a result of occupation and repression by China, and that access to Tibet by international organisations is denied; also notes that the Dalai Lama has steadfastly refused to resort to violence in the struggle for freedom; expresses deep concern that the Chinese Government is actively seeking to prevent Her Majesty's Government from supporting discussion of the Tibet issue at the UN Human Rights Commission; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to support the restoration of human rights in Tibet being discussed at the UN Human Rights Commission as a matter of urgency.
