BBC Four

EDM number 928 in 2001-02, proposed by Chris Bryant on 04/03/2002.

That this House congratulates the BBC on the launch of the new free-to-view digital channel BBC Four on 2nd March; welcomes the channel's commitment to diverse, cultural and in-depth programming; notes the contribution it will make to the cultural life of the nation by increasing choice and creating a new audience for high quality arts, drama and documentaries; calls on public service broadcasters and the Government to work together to ensure that BBC Four is available as cheaply as possible to all licence fee payers, especially in isolated communities; and hopes that the BBC will maintain its commitment to arts programming not only on BBC Four but on BBC One and Two as well.

This motion has been signed by a total of 49 MPs.
