Sex And Death
EDM number 919 in 2001-02, proposed by Jane Griffiths on 01/03/2002.
That this House views with concern the rising rate of sexually transmitted infections highlighted in the recent British Medical Association report 'Sexually Transmitted Infections'; calls on the Government to follow the recommendations of the report in fighting this disturbing trend by increasing sex education in schools, the number of clinics for young people and the number of genitourinary medicine clinics, and by encouraging TV series aimed at teenagers to deal with sexually transmitted infections truthfully; recognises the cost of treatment as opposed to prevention; and calls on policy makers to focus their energy and money on educating the public on sexually transmitted infections and their consequences, which include destruction of fertility, high medical costs, ectopic pregnancy and death.
