Cheltenham Town Football Club
EDM number 907 in 2001-02, proposed by Nigel Jones on 27/02/2002.
That this House congratulates Cheltenham Town Football Club on its meteoric rise from non-league divisions into the Football League, winning the FA Trophy along the way; praises the exciting and record-breaking FA Cup run which ended in a narrow defeat in the fifth round at West Bromwich Albion, a result which might have been different but for a number of dubious refereeing decisions; applauds the achievement of the players and manager in bringing quality football to Gloucestershire; notes with approval the extensive ground improvements which have been made in recent years; commends the directors for their excellent stewardship of the club's finances, and the fans who are amongst the best behaved in the League; and wishes the club every success in the future.
