Smartheart
EDM number 889 in 2001-02, proposed by Martin Linton on 26/02/2002.
That this House welcomes the contribution made by the London Ambulance Service to resuscitation training in the community; supports widening the base of people with first aid skills and the awareness of heart problems to include relatives of people with heart disease, staff at GP surgeries, teachers, and others working in public areas; praises in particular the work of the unique Smart Heart project in Battersea run by Kevin Wallis, seconded from the LAS at the initiative of the Battersea Primary Care Group, in which 19 defibrillators were introduced to GP surgeries; notes the project's smart use of school talks, poster campaigns, public events and dietary information to encourage healthy hearts; supports its roll-out over Wandsworth and the London area; and hopes that primary care trusts will make funding available for this and for the continuing training of people with resuscitation skills who may lose them without regular refresher courses.
