Dyspraxia Awareness
EDM number 882 in 2001-02, proposed by Kevin Brennan on 25/02/2002.
That this House acknowledges the need to raise awareness of dyspraxia, a syndrome that affects the way in which the brain processes information, causing problems with perception, language, thought and co-ordination and which affects approximately between six and 10 per cent. of the UK population; notes the problems affecting the children and adults suffering from dyspraxia, many of whom suffer from depression and mental health difficulties or develop problems with anti-social and deviant behaviour; urges the Department for Education and Skills to promote both greater teacher-awareness of dyspraxia and support in the primary and secondary sectors; and calls on the Home Office to consider recognition and appropriate support for dyspraxia sufferers in the penal system.
