Ecsc Payments For Redundant Workers
EDM number 838 in 2001-02, proposed by Harry Barnes on 11/02/2002.
That this House welcomes the established position of the Department of Trade and Industry in extending European Coal and Steel payments to redundant workers who were involved in the production of certain non-ECSC product which nevertheless have still been made by companies related to steel production, including stainless steel tubes manufactured by Sterling Tubes; but regrets that the redundant workers at Biwater (Clay Cross) Ltd and those currently becoming redundant in the labour force at Chesterfield Cylinders have not been included within the D.T.I.'s arrangements; and asks the Secretary of State at the D.T.I. to urgently revisit this issue in order to meet the needs of 750 workers made redundant in North Eastern Derbyshire, plus many others throughout the United Kingdom.
